A Vintage Green Dresser and a Napkin

This week I was checking out the local Goodwill and found this great vintage dresser.
Before:

The dresser has great details, but the bottom drawer had the vaneer coming completely off and the dresser was stained red.  After fixing the bottom drawer with wood glue and clamps I mixed up my own vintage green color and painted the dresser with 2 coats of home-made chalk paint.   When it was done; I was looking at the center cutout  and felt that it needed a little something.

I had experimented with using napkins on old wood to get a wallpaper look and I thought this would work on the dresser too.  I found a napkin and took off the second layer so that I had only one ply.

I brushed Modge Podge on the dresser and placed the napkin down and tried to rub out the wrinkles.

I then cut around the edges of the napkin with a scalpel in the groove of the dresser to cut away the extra napkin.

I brushed on another coat of Modge Podge and let it dry.

I distressed the dresser and sealed and aged it with Linseed oil/dark wax, including the napkin part.

I love the details

My Daughter's first Dresser Transformation

My 12 year old daughter really doesn't have an interest in painting furniture for fun like I do, but she has an interest in making a bit of spending cash, so she decided to transform her first dresser.

Before:
I found this well made, but outdated dresser at the GW and brought it home for her.  After taking off all the hardware she sanded down the top with my electric hand sander.  She is taking Woodshop as her elective at her Middle School, so she knew how to use the sander.  I showed her how to seal and stain the wood top with AS dark wax/Linseed oil.

After the top was finished, I showed her how to make home-made chalk paint using plaster of paris and flat paint.  She made her paint from BM Garlic Clove and then painted her piece with 2 coats.

I like to distress the edges of pieces, but she did not want that look for her piece.  She also liked the gold hardware, so she kept it.  The last step for this transformation was to seal it with clear wax and then sell it!

My daughter took most of the pictures too and I am proud of her!
